The problem with all the alts, without exception, is they are too slow. I, and I'm sure many other people, simply can't handle the old style of chans where everything runs at a snails pace. Where's the fun in that? Especially when chans like 8 and 4chan exist with much larger userbases.
And quite frankly, the chans have become rather stagnant. There's not a whole lot to discuss and the content creators have fled from the scene or been banned or whatever so they don't create content anymore.
At this point chans are mostly forums. You can still enjoy them but I imagine unless someone comes up with something new soon there won't be anything left to save.

Content, especially wide content on different topics is something that makes an imageboard/chan attractive.I always lurk on the overboard so I see all active threads, no matter wich board and can reply to those who are interesting when I wouldn't have seen them before because they're on boards I rarely visit.
