Support NeXTCHAN For a Better Server

The current server will not be able to host everything we plan to introduce (IPFS archival, PIXIV/Mastodon integration, Matrix...). Please help support NeXTCHAN through donations.
Requirements for target:
- $20/mo for better server
- $15 for domain transfer to US registrar
- $15/yr for domain renewal
- Any extras are appreciated, and will be used for ads on other sites/chans and unexpected costs

Current Software Status

NeXTCHAN is currently running Blazechan 0.11.0+git20180611.

I want a feature added!

https://gitgud.io/blazechan/blazechan/issues/new
Please remember that not all requests are doable and currently Blazechan has a backlog of feature requests already.
Update 2018-06-11: I currently only have time for very minor fixes and as such cannot do feature requests. Additionally, a major backend refactor is planned, therefore no feature requests will be done until that (expected August in the latest).

Here's my suggestion for the naming: Yotsuba-ch

It may seem like nobody cares about the site, but I've always liked Infinity Next, and by extension blazechan and nextchan, because they are truly innovative projects. I am glad to have people like you in the imageboard community.

Keep rocking it, m712.

Welp.. I think the problem is that we don't know much about how the site's actual management. What the staff is doing, or your plans. For instance, is it bad to upload a lot of images for the server? I basically took the last time we spoke as "are you sure you need to post all that data" to mean diplomatically "dude you are posting tons of images for the server." So I eased off on posting images.

Another thing, I recall users were complaining that there were no mods around doing clean up of certain porn. I didn't see the offending posts, but I was hearing that basically they were left up for days and no one was around to mod.

What is really messing with us the users is we don't know much about the site's abilities. Say I want to invite new users here. They may ask "dude, can you post webm, put youtube embeds, gif, or flash" and frankly I don't know. I don't even know how much content the site can handle. I mean we may be able to post like flash, webm, gif, embeds, and other media items, but we don't know what the site can handle and how much it can handle. What about server security? That issue alone nuked a potential exodus.

Users who may want to use this site have no clue what is going on with it. I am not talking about sensitive details, but simply GENERAL information. Why promote or get people over here when as shitty as 8chan is getting shilled, this site can go down on us at any time for close to a week on end. As utter shit as 4chan is, at least users know that they can post whatever they want data wise and the servers are going to be able to hack it like a champ.

Also what does this site offer that the other legacy chans don't? Like more freedom but with basic security of user data, and etc.
Users are in the dark ALL the time here. I say it's one of the reason's no one uses the site.

>Welp.. I think the problem is that we don't know much about how the site's actual management. What the staff is doing, or your plans.

Feel free to ask any questions.

>For instance, is it bad to upload a lot of images for the server? I basically took the last time we spoke as "are you sure you need to post all that data" to mean diplomatically "dude you are posting tons of images for the server." So I eased off on posting images.

I don't really recall that, but I'm sure I'd mean something like that as a joke. We don't have much storage constraints.

>Another thing, I recall users were complaining that there were no mods around doing clean up of certain porn. I didn't see the offending posts, but I was hearing that basically they were left up for days and no one was around to mod.

As you can read on the frontpage, the site really depressed me so I rarely visited it, and nobody is dedicated enough to Nextchan to regularly moderate the entire site. Also the BO went offline in case of /polk/.

>What is really messing with us the users is we don't know much about the site's abilities. Say I want to invite new users here. They may ask "dude, can you post webm, put youtube embeds, gif, or flash" and frankly I don't know.

Again, what would you like to know? WEBM, youtube embeds are on the roadmap but not possible at the moment, Flash is a big no-no, but you can post GIFs.

>What about server security? That issue alone nuked a potential exodus.

I own the server now, and I take regular backups.

>Users who may want to use this site have no clue what is going on with it. I am not talking about sensitive details, but simply GENERAL information. Why promote or get people over here when as shitty as 8chan is getting shilled, this site can go down on us at any time for close to a week on end.

This is a legitimate issue. I am trying to keep the site up as much as I can and I haven't had as many problems with Blazechan as I did when the site was using Infinity Next.

>As utter shit as 4chan is, at least users know that they can post whatever they want data wise and the servers are going to be able to hack it like a champ.

Blazechan is designed to be easy on the resources so I think it can handle many people at once. Of course things like captcha are yet to be done, but that's not really hard work.

>Also what does this site offer that the other legacy chans don't? Like more freedom but with basic security of user data, and etc.

Blazechan was designed after Infinity Next with speed/efficiency in mind.
I am also thinking of componentizing it, so that it is possible to create alternative backends for it like NNTPchan or IPFS.

>Users are in the dark ALL the time here. I say it's one of the reason's no one uses the site.

I wish to be more open about this stuff. Once again, please ask away.

>>133

All of the things you said can be made into extensions with post and board setting hooks. I'll work on them at some point but I don't have much time nowadays. If you want to help making them, learn programming, Python and Django.

/a+b+c/ for multiboard
/~meta/ for metaboard
/a+b+c/!text/ for multiboard search
//-a-b-c/ for overboard minus some boards
/
/+a+b/ for adding hidden boards to overboard
/*/?nsfw for NSFW added
/board/thread/p Thread
/board/post/p Post/thread redirect
/board/catalog#s=text for OP search (JS)
/board/3/#s=text for text search on page 3 (JS)
Moderation is available on the thread page without another url. BLAZECHAN POWER
/!random/ could be for a random board.
/dir/ can be a regular board moderated globally.

>>141

Welp, I fucked that one up.

>>141

>>142

Also keep in mind that the features you requested adds a lot of backlog for me and I'm busy as I said so it might take a while to complete.

For >>130 you just need to delete local cached file and link, and you are safe.
For >>131 board header channels and dedicated thread channels, where there could be an in-page client so you can click in and join. Also, Matrix/Riot is a FOSS alternative to slack and discord.
For >>132 mobile styles and mobile app is two different things, but is it possible to make things sleek without relying on 3rd party stuff and cucked licenses?
For >>133 '''I will gladly help you out.'''
For Mastodon, this is something more abstract that we can come back later on.

>>144

How do I make things bold, like 8chan '''?

>>143

That is fine.
But the "post and board setting hook" is something I want to learn and help you with

Here is Matrix (Discord FOSS alternative)
https://matrix.org/
We can have DM, group chat, VoIP with rooms etc.
Possible implementation:
One room per board (if the board want to at any time)
each room (including voice chat) has channels for different topic
With DM and such, contacting others will be easy.
Also people can choose to use PGP to encrypt their conversations.

Here is Mastodon (Twitter FOSS alternative)
https://github.com/pixiv/mastodon
Since Pixiv/Mastodon is GNU/Social compatible, it is more reliable.

>Fully interoperable with GNU social and any OStatus platform

>>141

check this layout https://8ch.net/zundel/index.html
This is a file board. Might be useful somehow

>>144

>dedicated thread channels, where there could be an in-page client so you can click in and join.

Doesn't that kinda undermine the purpose of an imageboard? I mean, one channel per board is fine but threads are the main place for discussing the OP topic. That would make it pointless.

>For >>132 mobile styles and mobile app is two different things, but is it possible to make things sleek without relying on 3rd party stuff and cucked licenses?

Why not? You don't need 10MB of javascript libs to make something look good. I'm currently working on the captcha over at https://dev.nextchan.org/, but after that I can implement your ideas as extensions and work on mobile styles. What are you suggesting about the mobile style?

>For >>133 I will gladly help you out.

Thanks, as I said, a moderate amount of general programming and Python skills are necessary. Don't try to contribute now if you don't have them, and learn. If you do have Python knowledge, it would be a huge help to help with implementing some of the features you suggested.

>>145

**text** text
Blazechan uses markdown syntax.

>>146

See above bit about Python and programming.

>>147

I know what Mastodon is. I'd rather not directly support it because I don't support the people behind it, but I can support GNU Social. How do you think the integration would pan out? If you're talking about linking accounts to posts, I'd rather not because it causes trip/namefaggotry.

>>148

I'm still thinking about the stuff I need in the API to enable this functionality. I plan to do it, certainly.

>>149

Dedicated thread channels sounds dumb, but in /pol/ Ops or /tech/ projects, it could fly (unless /hwndu/ and /wg/ have their own channel, that might be a work-around)
Mobile style: just make it sharp looking. Cards and panels based layouts, no shadows, square corners for large stuff and round corners for buttons and such (unless they are seamless with the large stuff). Dark mode is a must.

>>133

Moderate Python skills? Yes. Django skills? That is something I want to try out.

>>147

Pixiv/Mastodon (or GNU Social) could cause namefagging. I absolutely know that. Twit referencing in post and IPFS cache posting on mastodon, is the first functionality I thought about. But to allow single-account access to both nextchan and mastodon... requires people to lock down the board to force no namefagging (which avatarfagging, titlefagging and flagfagging can already out-do). But as in 8chan, there are avatarfags (SHGNackt and others) who actually utilize the 8chan/pol/gg-twitter connection to get stuff done. Take that into consideration

>>150

>Dedicated thread channels sounds dumb, but in /pol/ Ops or /tech/ projects, it could fly (unless /hwndu/ and /wg/ have their own channel, that might be a work-around)

You can always create your own channel, and link it on the thread. Automatically creating a channel for a board sounds neat, though.

>Mobile style: just make it sharp looking. Cards and panels based layouts, no shadows, square corners for large stuff and round corners for buttons and such (unless they are seamless with the large stuff). Dark mode is a must.

I'll consider your suggestions.

>Moderate Python skills? Yes. Django skills? That is something I want to try out.

It would be a huge help.

>Twit referencing in post

This actually sounds good.

>and IPFS cache posting

?

>But as in 8chan, there are avatarfags (SHGNackt and others) who actually utilize the 8chan/pol/gg-twitter connection to get stuff done. Take that into consideration

I could actually make board owners have the ability to white-list GNUSocial accounts and allow them to tripfag via OAuth. Sounds neat.

>>151

>Automatically creating a channel for a board sounds neat, though.

Make it semi-automatic (having options to do it if they want), so we can prevent spill-over from board-creation floods
Forgot to ask, what is your opinion on https://matrix.org/? I mean it is Apache2, but you can make your fork AGPL if you wanted it to be.
DM, group chat, VoIP, rooms, file sharing, stickers, icons and description. Everything Discord has.
If you want something pre-baked try this implementation https://github.com/vector-im/riot-web

>Twit referencing in post

Referencing mastodon tweets in nextchan post

>IPFS cache posting

Sharing files in nextchan to Mastodon using IPFS

>I could actually make board owners have the ability to white-list GNUSocial accounts and allow them to tripfag via OAuth. Sounds neat.

Make a forced anon function option, just to be on the safe side.
Also why can't we use Pixiv/Mastodon when it is AGPL and GNUSocial compatible? The layout looks nice. https://github.com/pixiv/mastodon https://pawoo.net/about
These one's layout looks bad and inaccessible though https://gnu.io/social/try/servers.html
And this one look like twitter from a long time ago https://gnusocial.net/main/all

Current layout issue:
1. shadow is too large compared to 8chan and endchan
2. The reply box does not have lines or frames separating each field.
3. No embedding option
4. Day-Month-Year (British a.k.a international) not Month-Day-Year (American)
5. Thumbnail size could be smaller or flexible
6. No colored ID (or even ID for that matter against samefagging)
Other issues: Spam, we need captcha ASAP (no recaptcha)

Problems with board creation:
1. No word filter (word convert vs no posting)
2. State in the form what 0 meant
3. No zalgo/emoji removal
4. No regulation on minimal amount of pics/files per post
5. No pdf/epub/mobi options
6. No mp4/webm/audio aptions
7. world flag options and /pol/ flag options
8. custom flags
9. Custom spoiler image
There is more (see 8chan's board settings panels)
Other problems:
1. Buttons too large (catalog/log/bottom)
2. Red text has too big of a font
3. Reddit spacing is not properly resolved

That kinda defeats the entire point of the imageboard now, doesn't it? What kind of integration are you thinking of?

It's a site setting. If you mean client side, I'm sure it can be done in JS.

>6. No colored ID (or even ID for that matter against samefagging)

We had it, but I lost the code for it and haven't bothered to reimplement it. It's not too hard to do.

What? It's already there. This board allows OPs without images. Check out another board.

When you want /hwndu/ and /wg/ to get shit done while being off (((Discord)))

>There are lines between the fields. Can you not see them at all, or is the contrast too low?

Some browsers don't show this at all, for example Chrome (tested on school desktop)

>>3. No zalgo/emoji removal

>As a board setting?

Zalgo and emoji being removed, or it being forbidden in posts.

Once we stopped doing greentexts,
This is clearly visible.

><Ruby

I said the Pixiv (Japanese art site) fork of Mastodon, which is many commits behind and ahead of Hootsuite (the SJWs), so it should be safe.
One last thing, when I am trying to reference previous posts, and I point the cursor somewhere else other than the bottom, it doesn't paste the text to the right of the cursor, it just have the text pasted in the bottom of the text field.

Software regarding Matrix:
Server: https://matrix.org/docs/projects/server/synapse.html
CLient: https://matrix.org/docs/projects/client/riot.html
Python SDK: https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-python-sdk
Features:
Allows for file sharing
Has Group chats and DMs with End to End Encryption
Can bridge with practically everything
Platform agnostic (has WebApp, Android/iOS)
Some problems:
Lock down the amount of channels to maximum 10 per board (observation: there is always less then 10 happenings in /pol/)
Allow board owners to opt-in for such a service, such that we can reduce the number of channels.
There should be a rule that, boards with less users get less channels.
How do you sync user accounts between nextchan, Mastodon and Matrix?

Regarding archiving, is it possible to bind it with 3rd party services like archive.is or archive.fo (like a one-click option in the page),
and maybe auto-archiving of Ops threads one way or another? (IPFS not necessary)
I would not recommend having our own 8archive.moe, because it is hard to maintain, and have lots of issues regarding DMCAs and file storage.
In these cases, allowing and API for other parity sites like 4plebs, desuarchive, archive.moe and others to do the archiving is better.

Not sure where to post this, but have you considered adding tags?

Something that allows people to search for posts/threads across the site. For example you could tag draw threads or webm threads, so you'd be more inclined to participate in different ones as opposed to sticking to the one in your favorite board even if it isn't necessarily appropriate.

On top of a hidden service, could you give us an eepsite too?
Also, if next/blazechan has pages similar to some rules pages on 8chan, maybe you should make a page about a vague roadmap. Just so it's easy to keep track of stuff and people don't have to keep on asking the same question. Or maybe just a locked thread that you update.

Lastly, I think a separate thread for nextchan integration with xmpp, irc, gnu social, mastodon, or matrix would be nice. Given the scope of the topic it seems like it deserves it's own thread, and it's a bit novel compared to most requests here.

>>162

>eepsite

So I2P? That can be considered.
Not sure about FreeNet and GNUnet.

>GNUSocial or Mastodon

Do-able.

>IRC, XMPP or Matrix

Do-able, first two are for chatting, last one can IM and VoIP, with bridging capabilities for the former two.

>One last thing, when I am trying to reference previous posts, and I point the cursor somewhere else other than the bottom, it doesn't paste the text to the right of the cursor, it just have the text pasted in the bottom of the text field.

Ah yeah. Gotta fix that. Annoys the hell outta me too.

Boardlist has 25 public boards, but says there are 26.

Turns out I'm an idiot. I had javascript disabled so it wasn't showing all the boards.
Although I think it would be nice if the "show more boards" option appeared even without javascript.
Also, it does this odd glitch when you click on it. Each time you click on show more boards, it just appends a 25.

What board do you own? If you didn't publicly share your account name anywhere, then it is currently impossible to find it (and the boards you own) out. Join irc.rizon.org and ping fam (that's me) and tell me your account name, and I will be able to reset your password.

that kind of exists, if you unpin a photo and no one else has it pinned/garbage collection hasn't reached it yet, then the image will resolve to nothing from IPFS.
the most frequent gateway, ipfs.io, will also respond to DMCA requests, so that's one worry down

Forgot to mention I own /polk/

hey m712!

loving the speed, it is indeed blazing fast

here's a few issues, tho

>#urgent!

-post deletion:
just deleted a test post, and all my other posts disappeared, as if there was a "delete all posts from this ip/ID" rule set as default

>board configuration:

-announcement: looks like the board announcement isn't working, I really like this feature because we always post the board rules there as big as possible, just as a link to the global rules, as to avoid any later misunderstandings

-board rules: can't seen to find any options regarding this either, aside from putting them in the announcement, which isn't working either

-flags: activated them, but they're not showing

-banners: banners seem to be uploading properly, but then they're not showing in the assets panel, so it's impossible to know how many banners you've uploaded, or to delete them, it just keep saying "There are no banners for this board.", even tho there is

-bans: banned ips take you to the ban page, just to tell you're not banned, so there's no access to the ban details at all

-poster ID's: they stop showing, until you manually refresh the whole page (F5)

>general posting issues:

-spaces: I'm a big fan of the so-called "reddit spacing", it just makes for a more pleasant reading experience

so far the only way I've found to leave blank spaces between paragraphs is alt+255, is there another way?

-phoneposting: one of my guys told me the site mobile version displays correctly, but the post box is out of bonds, so there's no way to actually post

that's it so far, please let me know if you need anything else

thanks!

>>363
btw, just deleted a post again on my board, and it deleted all my posts again, but not this one, so it must be a board thing

hope this helps!

>>364
it also happens when deleting someone else's posts

once you delete one post, all that poster's posts are gone

>>363
Most of the issues you described I know about, but don't have the time to fix yet. I'll try to fix the ones I can do quickly.

>just deleted a test post, and all my other posts disappeared, as if there was a "delete all posts from this ip/ID" rule set as default

Ah yeah, that's a bugfix I've yet to push to master too. Sorry, will quickfix.

>announcement: looks like the board announcement isn't working, I really like this feature because we always post the board rules there as big as possible, just as a link to the global rules, as to avoid any later misunderstandings

Not implemented yet, sorry.

>board rules: can't seen to find any options regarding this either, aside from putting them in the announcement, which isn't working either

Use static pages + a sticky for now. You can create a rules.html which will be at https://nextchan.org/yourboard/rules.html.

>flags: activated them, but they're not showing

No flags yet, sorry again.

>banners: banners seem to be uploading properly, but then they're not showing in the assets panel, so it's impossible to know how many banners you've uploaded, or to delete them, it just keep saying "There are no banners for this board.", even tho there is

Will check this one out asap.

>bans: banned ips take you to the ban page, just to tell you're not banned, so there's no access to the ban details at all

Yeah that's also fugged, will look into

>poster ID's: they stop showing, until you manually refresh the whole page (F5)

Post IDs don't show on new posts yet, I've yet to fix

>spaces: I'm a big fan of the so-called "reddit spacing", it just makes for a more pleasant reading experience

Are the spaces collapsing? That shouldn't happen.

>phoneposting: one of my guys told me the site mobile version displays correctly, but the post box is out of bonds, so there's no way to actually post

Yet to fix, but you can click the post button, it's sticking out at the bottom.>>364
>

>>366
The banned page, the post deletion and board banners should be fixed.

>>366

>Most of the issues you described I know about, but don't have the time to fix yet. I'll try to fix the ones I can do quickly.

oh, cool, cool , man, no worries

the deletion thing was the only crucial error

>Use static pages + a sticky for now. You can create a rules.html which will be at https://nextchan.org/yourboard/rules.html.

perfect, will do so

>Are the spaces collapsing? That shouldn't happen.

yup, no empty lines of any kind, you gotta force it with a alt+255 character

well, everything else is cosmetic really, maybe except the text-collapsing thing?

the speed is orgasm-inducing, tho

updated the tags pic a bit, btw

>>378
That's pretty cool. I also fixed the overboard issue you were talking about.

>>379
outstanding, man!

[autism] by the way, noticed some peculiar behavior, alt+255 works great to leave empty lines between paragraphs, but it stops working after using the # tags, which seem to behave differently that some other tags...

for that, been using a combination of the tag breaker, spoiler tags, and alt255, which forces an empty like after red text words[/autism]

I'll try

about the board title and subtitle size and their placement in relation to the banners, tho...

oh, memeing aside, the tripcode/name isn't sticking in the reply box... not sure if this is normal behavior or not

hey m, did you get a chance to take a look at the name/tripcode issue?

btw, I was gonna suggest a new feature

in the board panel, "nextchan.org/cp/boards/", adding a link to the board's main page

unless I'm missing something, there's no way to jump to the actual board from there...

>>391

>name/tripcode issue

It needs JS, and I can't work on code until I get some free time which will be in July.

>add a link to the board's main page

Good idea. Will make a quickfix now.

>>391
Alright. You should now have a board index link in the panel.

well, everything seems to be running amazingly smooth so far

even faster than before, and no posting errors at all

I'm compiling a list of suggestions too, btw

next month whenever you get some free time just let me know, and I'll post them here if you want

>>424
i have a suggestion: thread archiving
i know that there is a "download all images in a thread" option in the little triangle menu, but it would be nice to have a complete archiving feature

>>425

>i know that there is a "download all images in a thread"

which is awesome, btw

I remember 8ch had/has a "download thread" option too, which would basically make a huge .png with sort of a "capture" of the whole thread

and they also offered the chance to archive the whole board on another site, (I think)

personally I always opt out of any kind of archiving, so I never really tested it, tho

>>424
another suggestion i have is bringing back custom css themes
not sure if i remember this correctly but infinitynext had some sort of themeing option in the settings, which i didnt use much, but it would be great to bring it back to encourage stuff like >>/B/71

>>427
oh, yeah, that's been one of the main suggestions, at the very least a dark-theme option

here's what I have so far, aside from specific mobile-posting things

-remove automatic ">" when quoting
-board index updating
-tripcodes don't stick
-post-editing
-"view last 50 posts" option
-cross-thread post previews
-ID highlighting (when clicking)
-youtube embedding
-(You)s or nametags
-custom themes, or a dark-theme option
-fix .png transparency for thumbnails
-add banner specifications (size, dimensions, number)

have you considered hosting your shit on Scaleway (for example)? It's literally 4 bucks a month and you get a fuckton more than you have.

4€ a month gets you 2 64 bit Cores, 50 GB SSD, 2 GB of RAM and... well 200 Mb/s network but I mean... do you really use that much bandwidth anyway?

8€ a month gets you 4 64 bit Cores, 100 GB SSD, 4 GB of RAM, 300 Mb/s network

or if you decide to go with bare metal servers then you have connections from 1 GB up, same specs as mentioned before
